7 Signs Your Business Website Needs a Redesign

An outdated website quietly sends customers to your competitors. These seven warning signs tell you it is time for a website redesign.

Your website is often the first impression a customer has of your business — and it works 24 hours a day. But websites age quickly. Design trends change, phones get bigger, and Google keeps raising the bar. If you recognise two or more of these signs, it is probably time for a website redesign.

1. It looks bad (or breaks) on a phone

Most visitors now arrive on a mobile phone. If they have to pinch and zoom, if buttons are too small to tap, or if text runs off the screen, they leave. Open your site on your own phone right now — would you stay?

2. It takes more than a few seconds to load

Slow websites lose visitors before the first page even appears. Heavy images, old plugins and cheap hosting are the usual causes. You can test your site free with Google’s PageSpeed Insights; a poor mobile score is a strong signal it needs work.

3. You can’t update it yourself

If changing a phone number or adding a new product means emailing a developer and waiting a week, your website will always be out of date. A modern website redesign should include an easy content management system so your team can make everyday changes in minutes.

4. Visitors don’t contact you

A website should generate enquiries, not just exist. Common problems include:

  • No clear call to action such as “Get a quote” or “Book an appointment”.
  • Contact details hidden on a single page.
  • No WhatsApp or click-to-call button for mobile users.
  • Long, confusing forms.

5. It doesn’t show up on Google

If you only appear when people search your exact business name, your site is missing out on customers who search for your services. Older websites often lack basic SEO — proper page titles, descriptions, headings, a sitemap and fast loading. A redesign is the perfect moment to fix this properly.

6. Your business has changed, but the website hasn’t

New services, a new location, a refreshed logo or a different target market all deserve a website that reflects them. An outdated site with old photos and services you no longer offer makes customers wonder whether you are still in business.

7. It isn’t secure

If browsers show “Not secure” next to your address, visitors see a warning before they see your business. Every site needs an SSL certificate (HTTPS) and regular updates. Old, unmaintained websites are also the most common targets for hackers.

Redesign or start from scratch?

Sometimes a refresh — new design, faster hosting, better content — is enough. If the underlying system is very old or insecure, rebuilding is usually cheaper in the long run. Either way, a good redesign keeps what already works for you, such as pages that rank well on Google, and sets up redirects so you don’t lose existing traffic.
